APLPT Queensland January 2025 - Wrap Up

What a Way to Start 2025!

We’ve kicked off the year with a record-breaking Queensland poker series, featuring the largest prize pool ever generated at an APLPT QLD series and an incredible 13 APLPT QLD records broken - $1,704,400! Hosted at the home of APL poker, Southport Sharks, the series spanned 33 events and delivered an electric atmosphere that sets the tone for a massive year ahead.

Among the highlights:

  • The $350 Monster Stack attracted 388 entries, the largest ever staged outside of the APL Million.

  • The $1,500 Jackstar event saw 342 entries, the largest ever outside of the APL Million or Victoria.

  • The $180 Main Event shattered records with 1,279 entries, the largest ever staged outside of the APL Million or Victoria.

  • The $600 Deep Freeze boasted 209 entries, another milestone achievement.

Let’s dive into the results from our two feature events: the Main Event and the Jackstar Super High Roller.

 

Main Event Champion Crowned

🏆 CHAMPION | APLPT QLD | EVENT 8 | MAIN EVENT 🏆

Tony Lu is the first APLPT Main Event Champion for 2025, besting a Queensland record field of 1,279 entries. Tony entered the final table ranked third in chips and ultimately faced Norbert Duga, the chip leader, in a thrilling heads-up battle. With skill and determination, Tony secured the victory after a brief showdown.

A Gold Coast local and retired sales director, Tony plays poker twice a week and looks forward to celebrating this milestone achievement with his wife and daughter. Congratulations, Tony!

Final Placings: 1st: Tony Lu - $36,890 + $100K Invitational Seat + $1,500 APL Million Seat

Jackstar Super High Roller

🏆 CHAMPION | APLPT QLD | EVENT 19 | JACKSTAR SUPER HIGH ROLLER 🏆

Romain Morvan delivered an incredible comeback to claim his first Jackstar title, overcoming a dominant run by Paris Sitzoukis. An ICM deal at three-handed play secured payouts for the top three players, but Romain ultimately claimed the title after an intense final battle.

A French expat and Aussie poker circuit regular, Romain reflected on his win: “Having days like this feels amazing. It’s good to see that it can happen again.”

Final Placings: 1st: Romain Morvan - $67,965* + $100K Invitational Seat

342 Entries, $444,600 Prize Pool, $1,500 Entry, 41 players paid
